Autumn Yoga in Svaneti
YOGA WITH JAGODA VOL.3
Day 1 (5 October 2025)
After picking you up from Kopitnari Airport (20 km from Kutaisi) and purchasing SIM cards, we will set off for Svaneti. Our first stop will be in Zugdidi (about 1.5 hours' drive from the airport), where we will have time to exchange money and have a quick lunch (don't worry, I will bring you something to eat at the airport). Then we will go to visit the Enguri Dam (about 1 hour from Zugdidi), which was once the highest (272 m) arch dam in the world, and today ranks 6th in this respect. The hydroelectric power plant on the Inguri River is located partly in Abkhazia, which it also supplies with electricity. The dam is only a short stop on our route. It takes about 3 hours to drive from the dam to Mazeri. In the evening, we will arrive at a guesthouse in the village of Mazeri, which offers a view of the Greater Caucasus. There will be the first yoga session and dinner consisting of local dishes.🕍
Day 2 (6 October 2025)
After breakfast, we are in for some serious trekking. First, we will reach the Hiker Cafe, from where we will climb to the 120-meter-high Shdugra Waterfall (we will climb to the foot of the waterfall). The one-way route is about 7.5 km, so about 15 km in both directions. The total elevation gain is about 520 meters, and the descent is 520 meters. We will climb to an altitude of over 2000 meters above sea level. The views will certainly reward us for the effort of the climb, and Jagoda will make sure that we don't have sore muscles in the evening during yoga practice. Dinner and overnight stay at a guesthouse in Mazeri.⛰️
Please note: this is a full-day trek. At the beginning, the trail is almost flat from the guesthouse to the start of the trail. Then it's slightly uphill for half the way, and at the end there is a large elevation gain and a steep climb. We will stop at least four times for longer breaks along the way. Once at a café, then at the ranger station on the way there, and the same on the way back. The cafe serves delicious fresh fish and other dishes, so I recommend having lunch here.
Day 3 (7 October 2025)
After yoga and breakfast in Mazeri, we will take a picturesque drive to the high-mountain village of Mestia (about 25 km by car). First, we will check into a guesthouse, and then we will drive to the start of the trail leading to the Chalaadi Glacier. It is less than 3 km one way from the parking lot and bridge to the glacier, so 6 km in total. There are no significant elevation gains along the way, but the stones on the trail are a problem, so we will move quite slowly (about 1.5 hours one way, 3 hours in total). After the trek, we will have lunch and visit the Ratiani private museum. It is a real gem, housed in an authentic Svan tower, and its host will tell us how the Svans lived centuries ago. In the evening, we will have a regenerative yoga session.
Day 4 (8 October 2025)
On this day, after practice and lunch, we will set off on a trip to Koruldi Lakes. Koruldi Lakes are located at an altitude of about 2,740 meters above sea level, while Mestia itself is located at an altitude of about 1,430 meters above sea level. As you can easily calculate, on this day we will have to climb over 1,300 meters uphill and then downhill. Don't worry, we won't exhaust ourselves. We will cover about 12 km of the route by 4x4 car and 2 km on foot (one way). Even those few kilometers will give us a run for our money, but we'll also gain time to chill out, take pictures, admire the views, and maybe even do some yoga outdoors. After returning for the night and dinner, we'll stretch with Jagoda to avoid muscle soreness.🧘
Day 5 (9 October 2025)
After yoga and breakfast, we will set off for Heshkili Huts (30 minutes by car), a magical place where you can swing on a swing overlooking the Caucasus, drink coffee or herbal tea, or eat kubdari, a local delicacy with meat. Then we will drive along the winding Swanian roads to Ushguli (about 50 km, but on extreme roads). This village, located at an altitude of over 2,200 m above sea level, has four hamlets (Zhibiani, Chvibiani, Chazhashi, and Murkmeli) and is famous for its stone defensive towers. In addition, Ushguli is listed by UNESCO as the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe. The wildness and harshness of this place will surely delight you. We will visit Svan villages and the La Maria monastery. Overnight stay and dinner in Ushguli with a view of Shkara at a local family's house.🏔️
Day 6 (10 October 2025)
On this day, we will enjoy horseback riding and a popular hike to the foot of the Shkara glacier. Shkara is Georgia's highest peak, at 5,203 meters above sea level. But don't let the numbers scare you, we will admire the peak from a safe distance. First, we will ride 10 km on horseback, leave the horses to rest, and walk up to the glacier along a picturesque and not very demanding route of about 2 km. Then we will descend to the horses and ride another 10 km back. Dinner and overnight stay still in Ushguli.🐎
Note: If someone is unable to ride a horse, or if it rains, we will drive to the start of the trail. The route is not very demanding, the only problem is the stones, which you have to jump over and watch your step.
Day 7 (11 October 2025)
On this day, we will mainly see the world from behind the windshield of a car, as we have a 6-hour drive back to Kutaisi ahead of us. Don't worry, there will be stops along the way, and the route leading through mountain passes (the Zagaro Pass is particularly beautiful in autumn) with rushing streams below will surely provide us with many attractions. Upon arrival in Kutaisi, if there is enough time, we will go shopping at the Green Bazaar and visit Bagrati Cathedral and the city in the evening. Yoga will take place on the terrace of our favorite hotel with a panoramic view of the city. That evening, we will have our last supra with cooking workshops and overnight stay in Kutaisi. 🍷
Day 8 (12 October 2025)
After breakfast, packing and transfer to the airport. Possibly here a bazaar on the way. ✈️
The itinerary is quite detailed, but is always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is, is also unpredictable, but you love it for that.❤️
Located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, Georgia will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, its culture and traditions are not fully understood by us. We guarantee that you will fall in love with Georgian cuisine, wine, mountains and people, just as we did. 🇬🇪❤️🇬🇪

A few words about our yoga teacher:
Jagoda Kwiecień: She has been practising yoga for more than six years. Her first year was spent experimenting and exploring. In 2018, she found her way to an Ashtanga yoga class with Krystian Messiah and immediately fell in love with this dynamic method that calms the mind and energises the body. Since then, she has developed her practice in regular classes and by going to workshops and, above all, by standing on her mat with herself every morning. In 2022, she completed a teacher training course with Ewa Wudzińska and Basia Lipska-Larsen. Since then, she regularly teaches classes at Lakshmi Yoga in Opole and organises away workshops. Yoga is an ongoing journey for her, which is why she continues to develop her teaching skills on refresher courses. Her latest hobby is fascial yoga and autoregulation of the nervous system, elements of which she weaves into her classes to take care of participants on all levels.🧘
