Guria-Adzaria-Samtskhe-2024

FROM THE SEA TO THE MOUNTAINS / August 3-10, 2024

Day 1 (August 3)

After arriving at the airport near Kutaisi (around 1:00 pm depending on which direction you are coming from), after exchanging money and buying SIM cards and snacks for the road, we will head to the seaside town of Ureki. The beaches in Ureki are famous for their magnetic sands, and the Black Sea water here is cleaner than in Batumi. We will swim at sunset, have dinner and stay in Ureki for the night.

Day 2 (August 4)

After breakfast we will set off with our delica to the high mountain resort of Gomismta, which is located in the Guria region. Gomismta earned its name as a resort because of its climate conducive to treating respiratory diseases. First, however, we will visit Shemokmedi Monastery, where we will have a walk (1.8 km in 2 directions), with coffee and delicious chachapuri on the way. The village of Gomismta offers fabulous views, which we will have the opportunity to enjoy, as the village is located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. If the weather is good, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of clouds and mists above us. Here we stay for dinner and overnight in tents, so there will be camping in the mountains. 🏑

Day 3 (August 5)

After assembling our encampment and breakfast, we will leave for the mountain village of Meriakheli, where there will be an opportunity to see how the local people make their specialties using traditional methods and a tasting of these delicacies. On this day we will also see the picturesque Chinchao Lake (delica access). We will pass many picturesque traditional pastoral villages to reach the village of Shuakhevi at the end of the day. Here we stay for dinner and overnight. πŸ—»

Day 4 (August 6)

On this day we will go on a tour rich in Georgian architectural gems. We will see the bridge of Queen Tamara (Purtio Bridge), Georgia's most famous ruler. Also on our tour is the Skhalta Orthodox Monastery, founded in the 13th century. We will climb a hill (almost 6 km round trip) where the medieval Khikhani Castle, once the most important fortification in Adjari, is located in a strategic and very picturesque place. For dinner and overnight we will head to a nearby village. Danisparauli. 🏑

Day 5 (August 7)

After breakfast we will set off from Danisparauli to Lake Shuamta. From there, the road will take us towards the mountainous Goderdzi Pass (2025 meters above sea level) from where we will enjoy a trip to the Green Lake and a walk through an alpine garden (Goderdzi Alpine Garden). Then we will visit Beshumi resort, a resort town located at 1850-1900 m above sea level, where dinner and overnight stay await us. πŸ—»

Day 6 (August 8)

From Beshumi on the way to Achalciche we will see the famous Zarzma monastery. We will begin our tour of Achalciche with the Rabati Fortress. We will stroll through the restored courtyards and cloisters of this 900-year-old citadel. A beautifully restored structure, combining many styles. In places like our eagles' nests, at times like a princess palace from Disney's fairy tales, plus a mosque, polished domes, neat flower beds, a very romantic place. After visiting Rabati we will stay for dinner and overnight in Achalciche.⛰️

Day 7 (August 9)

After breakfast we will head towards Borjomi. It is a spa town located in the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, on the Mtkvari River. In Soviet times, the city gained the status of a fashionable health resort due to the mineral waters found there (the most popular bottled water in Georgia is Borjomi). A remnant of the glory years is Likani Park, which contains the former palaces of the tsarist family. A pool with hot springs is available in the park, maybe we can use it before the way back to Kutaisi. In Kutaisi we will see the Kolchida fountain, Bagrati Cathedral and other attractions of the city, one of which is a bazaar where we will buy souvenirs and Georgian specialties to take back to Poland. On this day, last supra and overnight in Kutaisi.🍷

Day 8 (August 10)

This is the day of departure. After breakfast and packing we will leave for the airport.✈️
