Day 1 (May 13)
After being picked up from the airport (around 1 pm depending on which city you are arriving from) in Kutaisi, exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), and purchasing SIM cards, we will head to visit two famous monasteries: Gelati and Motsameta. The first one, founded by the king David IV the Builder, whose remains rest in this place, has beautifully preserved frescoes (the site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the second one is much smaller, but located in a very charming place (see for yourself). From Motsameta we make a light trek through a gorge along the Tskaltsitela River. For dinner and overnight we will stay in Kutaisi. π
Day 2 (May 14)
After breakfast we will hit the road to the village of Rkoni, here we will have a short trek (in total of 8 km there and back) from the center of the village along a scenic route to Tamari Bridge and Rkoni Monastery, there will be time for a small picnic at lunchtime to rest before returning to the car. We will then head our Minivan to the former Georgian capital of Mtskheta, where we will explore the town, take a stroll along the banks of the Mtkvari River, and take a look at Svetiskhoveli cathedral. For the night we stay in Mtskheta. ποΈ
Day 3 (May 15)
In the morning after breakfast we will drive up the to famous Georgian War Road to enjoy the views along the way, visit Ananuri Fortress and monastery, take photos at the Panorama of Gudauri, the Russian-Georgian Friendship Monument. This is not the end of the attractions, on this day the icing on the cake will be an 8 km trek through the iconic Juta Valley. For dinner and overnight we will head to Kazbegi. ποΈ
Day 4 (May 16)
On this day we will see the most recognizable symbol of Georgia - Gergeti Triniti Church, otherwise known as ''Tsminda Sameba,'' located so that we will see the village of Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) below, and in the background a view of the peak of Kazbegi. The next point of the program is the Truso Valley, where in addition to beautiful mountain views we will see the colorful nature and sulfur mineral springs. We will cover part of the route by car, the rest of the way on foot (7.6km), to finally reach a restaurant/hotel run by one of the monks living in the valley. After a short rest, return to the car to make our way back along the Georgian War Road directly to Tbilisi for dinner and overnight. If there is enough strength and time we will walk through the city at night to feel the magic of this city.
Day 5 (May 17)
After a hotel breakfast we will set out for Kakheti. First on our route we will look at Udabno to go to the clone monastery complex that is Davitgareji. From here we will not only admire the colorful steppes from a far, but also go for a little walk on them. Finally, on our way to Bodbe village, we will also see another monastery named Natlismcemeli. We will spend the night in Bodbe or in Sighnaghi (to be determined), and we will be sure to have plenty of local food and wine.
Day 6 (May 18)
In the morning, after breakfast, we'll see the Bodbe Monastery and then take a stroll through the streets of the city of love, or Sighnaghi, located in the Kakheti region called Georgian Tuscany, as the vineyards and cypresses stretching to the horizon are deceptively reminiscent of Italian landscapes. Here, too, we'll taste exquisite Kakheti wines before taking a merry bus ride back to Tbilisi, where we'll settle in for the night.
Day 7 (May 19)
We will devote this day to penetrating the Georgian capital and its greatest monuments, including those willing to try bathing in the city baths (advance reservations apply) in the Abanotubani district. In the afternoon we will set off on the route leading to Kutaisi, if we have enough time we will see the town of Uplistsikhe. In the evening Kutaisi by night, that is the last supra together.π·
Day 8 (May 20)
After breakfast, we will hook up with Kutaisi bazaar to stock up on Georgian souvenirs in the form of spices, wine or churcheli (Georgian sweet snickers), then we will already head to Kutaisi airport. βοΈ
The plan is quite detailed, but it is always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is also unpredictable, but you love it for that. β€οΈ
Georgia, which lies at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, the culture and traditions that are not fully understood for us. 50 EUR (booking advance) on account + 450 EUR payable on the spot upon arrival (500 EUR in total).
Those who are determined should first of all buy air tickets. This is a guarantee of the trip for us. Then, after sending confirmation of ticket purchase, a reservation deposit is required within 7 days, in case of cancellation the deposit is non-refundable).
The number of places is severely limited. The minimum number of people on the trip is 4. Only intimate groups.
