The first one, founded by the ruler David IV the Builder, whose remains rest in this very place, has beautifully preserved frescoes (the site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the second one is much smaller, but located in a very charming place (you will see for yourself). For dinner and overnight we stay in Kutaisi.π

After breakfast we will hit the road towards Gori, here we will have lunch in the town of Stalin. On our route there will be a stop to visit the rock city of Upliscyche, which is considered to be the oldest urban settlement, and its foundation dates back to the 5th century BC. Here, as part of the entrance ticket purchased, there is an opportunity for wine tasting in beautiful natural settings. From Upliscyche we will head towards the former capital of Georgia, Mccheta, where we will visit one of the most beautiful and important Georgian monasteries, Sveti Tsakhoveli. In Mccheta we will have dinner and overnight at a family gesthous.ποΈ

We will cover part of the route by car, the rest of the way on foot (7.6km), to finally reach a restaurant/hotel run by one of the monks living in this valley.
