βPEARLS OF CAUCASUSβ
Day 1
After picking up from the airport in Kopitnari (20 km from Kutaisi), exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), buying SIM cards we will go to visit 2 famous monasteries: Gelati and Motsameta. The first one, founded by the ruler David IV the Builder, whose remains rest in this very place, has beautifully preserved frescoes (the site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the second one is much smaller, but located in a very charming place (you will see for yourself). For dinner and overnight we stay in Kutaisi.π
Day 2
After breakfast we will hit the road towards Gori, here we will have lunch in the town of Stalin. On our route there will be a stop to visit the rock city of Upliscyche, which is considered to be the oldest urban settlement, and its foundation dates back to the 5th century BC. Here, as part of the entrance ticket purchased, there is an opportunity for wine tasting in beautiful natural settings. From Upliscyche we will head towards the former capital of Georgia, namely Mtskheta. This ancient city located at the mouth of the Aragva River to Mtkvari is an important symbol of Georgia. It was here that the Christian religion was proclaimed as the state religion in 337 after Svet Nino introduced Christianity. We will visit the UNESCO-listed Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. For dinner and overnight we will stay at a family gesthouse in Mtskheta.π
Day 3
In the morning after breakfast, we will drive up the famous Georgian War Road to enjoy the mountain views as we drive along the serpentines. We will stop at the Panorama in Gudauri or the Monument to Russian-Georgian Friendship. The next point of the program is the Truso Valley, where, in addition to the beautiful mountain views, we will see the color of nature and mineral sulfur springs. We will cover part of the route by car, the rest of the way on foot (7.6km), to finally reach a restaurant/hotel run by one of the monks living in this valley. After a short rest, return to the car to head back along the Georgian War Road directly to Kazbegi for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
On this day we will see the most recognizable symbol of Georgia that is Trinity Gergeti Church otherwise known as Tsminda Sameba, located so that we can see the village of Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) below, and in the background the view of the peak of Kazbek. This is not the end of the attractions, on this day the icing on the cake will be an 8 km trek through the iconic Juta Valley. For dinner and overnight we will head to Tbilisi on the way still visiting Ananuri fortress.ποΈ
Day 5
In the morning, after breakfast we will leave for the wine region of Kakheti. We'll see the Bodbe Monastery and then take a stroll through the streets of the city of love that is Sighnaghi. It is not without reason that Kakheti is called Georgia's Tuscany, as the vineyards and cypresses stretching to the horizon are deceptively reminiscent of Italian landscapes. Also here we will taste exquisite kaheti wines. Dinner and overnight in Sighnaghi.π·
Day 6
After breakfast, we will set off on our way back to Tbilisi. We will devote this day to penetrating the Georgian capital and its major attractions. The plan is quite detailed, but it is always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is, is also unpredictable, but you love it for that.β€οΈ
Georgia, located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, the culture and traditions that are not fully understood for us. We guarantee that you will fall in love as we did with Georgian cuisine, wine, mountains and people. π¬πͺβ€οΈπ¬πͺ
