YOGA IN THE CAUCASUS

Day 1

After picking up from the airport in Kutaisi (arrival from Wroclaw at 11:30 am), exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), buying SIM cards we will go on a sightseeing tour. To start with, we will visit Prometheus Cave, absolutely a β€œmust see” place to see in Georgia (at least according to Internet users' opinions). It is here that we will walk more than 1.4 km along an underground route admiring the sparkling illuminated stalactites, stalagmites and stalagnates. Along the way, we'll have lunch and head toward Martvili Canyon. In the canyon for a short distance you can admire waterfalls, water cascades and a rushing turquoise river flowing through the gorge. For those willing: the opportunity to enjoy a pontoon cruise, and for those in search of adrenaline a zipp line ride. If we have enough time and desire we will drive up to see the Kaghu Waterfall, which is located a few kilometers from Martvili. For dinner and overnight we will arrive in Kutaisi. In the evening we will have our first yoga session.🧘

Day 2

After morning yoga on the terrace of the hotel and a Georgian breakfast, we are getting ready to leave for our first real trek. It won't be easy, as the entire route in both directions is almost 25 km, and the peak we will conquer is 2001 m above sea level. We are talking about the mystical Khvamli Mountain, where, according to legend, Prometheus was chained to a rock. Another legend says that it is here, in the vertical slope of the mountain, that the treasures of the former Georgian rulers are hidden in caves. The views will certainly reward us for the effort of the climb (in good weather we will see both the Greater and Lesser Caucasus), and Berry in the evening during her yoga practice will make sure we don't get sour. After a hard trek, it's time for rest and delicious food at the Zanduri gesthous. But before we get there we will still feast our eyes on the Gvirishi Waterfall.⛰️

Day 3

We will start the day with yoga and a home-cooked breakfast, but we may get up later, as a relaxing trek to Zanduri is scheduled for this day. We know from experience that there may be problems getting up after such a trek. We will relax in beautiful natural surroundings. For those willing, light trekking in the local hills. Dinner and a second overnight stay in Zanduri. Of course, there will be a daily dose of yoga and meditation.πŸ—»

Day 4

On this day, after practice and breakfast, we will set off by car towards Ambrolauri. Ambrolauri is the capital of the Racha region famous for producing excellent wines, so we'll have a tasting too. We will stop at one of the local wine factories to see if they are as delicious as the locals claim. After the tasting and lunch, we will go to visit the Barakoni Cathedral located in the village of Tsesi. It is a richly decorated Orthodox church dating back to the 18th century, which was devastated by the Bolsheviks in the past. In the afternoon we will reach the town of Oni. For those who are willing, a walk in the area. Then yoga and a wonderful supra with toasts and delicious Georgian cuisine.🍷

Day 5

After yoga and breakfast, we will travel by car to the slightly wilder areas of Racha. On the way we will taste mineral waters in Utsera. The countryside will slowly turn into mountain views and then you will understand why the Racha region is called the Georgian Switzerland. The Racha Mountains are a range of the southern part of the Greater Caucasus, and their highest peak is Lebeuris Mta at 2862.7 m. Our highlight of the day will be an off-road and light trek (a total of 5 km round trip) to the village of Gona. This is a picturesque and almost deserted village located at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level around which the mountains of the Greater Caucasus spread out. Peace and quiet at the end of the world. Maybe we can hold a yoga session right here. For those willing for the day, there is the possibility of a horseback ride in the area. For dinner and overnight we will return to Oni.πŸ”οΈ

Day 6

On this day, after a serving of yoga and Georgian food, we will leave for the village of Tlughi, from where our trek to Mount Satsalike (elevation 1999m) will begin. The trek will take us several hours, as it is a total of 16 km and quite a lot of elevation gain. There will be time to rest, snack and take photos, and we will adjust our pace to the group. Return to the village of Tlughi, where dinner and overnight will await us.πŸ—»

Day 7

This will be our last day together and return from Racha to Imereti. To begin, we will stop to visit the Nikortsminda Cathedral. Built in the 11th century, the cathedral boasts beautiful frescoes inside and bas-reliefs outside the building. From Nikortsminda it's not far to Shaori Lake. We will stop by it for a short rest and picnic. Towards evening we will arrive in Kutaisi. Here we will check into the hotel, freshen up and go out for the last dinner together. This dinner will be no small thing, as it will be combined with a cooking workshop at the home of Georgian hostess Tina. Overnight at the hotel in Kutaisi.🍷

Day 8

After breakfast, packing and transfer to the airport. Possibly shopping at the Green Bazaar if there is enough time. ✈️

The plan is quite detailed, but it is always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is, is also unpredictable, but you love it for that.❀️

Georgia, located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, the culture and traditions that are not fully understood for us. We guarantee that you will fall in love as we did with Georgian cuisine, wine, mountains and people. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺβ€οΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺ

A few words about our yoga teacher:

Jagoda KwiecieΕ„: She has been practicing yoga for more than six years. Her first year was spent experimenting and exploring. In 2018, she found her way to an Ashtanga yoga class with Krystian Messiah and immediately fell in love with this dynamic method that calms the mind and energizes the body. Since then, she has been developing her practice in regular classes and by going to workshops, and most importantly by standing on the mat with herself every morning. In 2022, she completed a teacher training course with Ewa Wudzinska and Basia Lipska-Larsen. Since then, she has been teaching regularly at Lakshmi Yoga in Opole and organizing away workshops. Yoga is an ongoing journey for her, so she continues to develop her teaching skills at continuing education courses. Her latest passion is fascial yoga and nervous system autoregulation, elements of which she weaves into her classes to take care of participants at all levels.🧘
