Imereti-Racha-2024

SUMMER ADVENTURE / July 11-16, 2024

Day 1 (July 11)

After picking up from the airport (around 1:00 pm depending on which city you are arriving from) near Kutaisi, exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), buying SIM cards we will hit the road to Racha region. Racha is sometimes called Georgia's Switzerland, why, you will see for yourself by admiring the high mountain scenery. On the first day we will stop in the village of Utsera for dinner and overnight.πŸ”οΈ

Day 2 (July 12)

From Utsera we will drive up by car to the village of Glola. We will leave the car here and take our backpacks, sleeping bags, tents and provisions with us. We will set off on a trek towards Lake Udziro (elevation 2,800 meters above sea level) located on the slope of Mount Katitsvera (3,300 meters above sea level), which is picturesquely located in the mountains. The route will be about 7 kilometers. We will spend the night in tents under a starry sky overlooking the majestic Caucasus and the turquoise surface of the lake. By the campfire we will prepare dinner together and drink wine.

Day 3 (July 13)

In the morning after a trapper's breakfast we will roll up the camp and set off down to Shovi (10 km route, we will make a loop). Then already on flat terrain we will reach 2 km to Glola. Here we will spend the night and have dinner at a family gesthous, experiencing Georgian hospitality.

Day 4 (July 14)

After breakfast, we will depart from Glola by sammobile towards Mukhura waterfall. We will travel back in time by visiting the post-Soviet town of Chiatura. Here time has stopped, and the city in its heyday famous for manganese mining is now decaying before our eyes. It may be a slightly depressing atmosphere, but it is also a part of Georgia and its history that we should not forget. We will have the opportunity to admire the industrial landscape from a height, from the perspective of the cable car that runs in the city, and was established in 1953. For dinner and overnight we stay in Chiatura.πŸ“Έ

Day 5 (July 15)

In the morning we will leave towards the village of Katskhi. It is here that the famous monastery on the rock or Katskhi Pillar is located. Situated on a 40-meter high monolith, the monastery is impressive from a distance. Unfortunately, we will not be given the opportunity to climb the mountain, as the hermit living in the monastery is reluctant to receive visitors, but we will visit the monastery built at the foot of the monolith. In the afternoon we will reach the capital of Imereti-Kutaisi. We will shop at the famous Green Bazaar and visit the city center. This day we will have a supra at Tina's and an overnight stay in Kutaisi.

Day 6 (July 16)

After breakfast, packing and transportation to the airport.✈️

The plan is quite detailed, but it is always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is, is also unpredictable, but you love it for that. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺβ€οΈπŸ‡΅πŸ‡±

Georgia, which lies at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, the culture and traditions that are not fully understood for us. We guarantee that you will fall in love as we did with Georgian cuisine, wine, mountains and people. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺβ€οΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡ͺ
