IN THE LAND OF TOWERS AND WINE - TUSHETI TRIP

Day 1

After picking up from Kopitnari airport (20 km from Kutaisi), exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), buying SIM cards we will head towards the former capital of Georgia - Mccheta. On the way we will stop for lunch. On our route there will be a stop to visit the rock city of Upliscyche, which is considered to be the oldest urban settlement, and its foundation dates back to the 5th century BC. Here, as part of the entrance ticket purchased, there is an opportunity for wine tasting in beautiful natural settings. From Upliscyche we will head to Mtskheta. This ancient city located at the mouth of the Aragva River to Mtkvari is an important symbol of Georgia. It was here that the Christian religion was proclaimed as the state religion in 337 after Svet Nino introduced Christianity. We will visit the UNESCO-listed Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. For dinner and overnight we will stay at a family gesthous in Mtskheta.🕍

Day 2

After a delicious breakfast, we'll set off by car for the Kakheti region, famous for its best wine-making traditions. It is here that wine is still produced in clay kvevri, stored in cellars called marani, as we will have the opportunity to experience for sure. We will first reach the village of Grdzelvelebi from where we will begin a short trek to the Bochorma Fortress. The trek will be less than 3 kilometers. After stretching our bones, we will return to the car, with time for lunch on the way. We will pass through Gombori Pass that day, visit Shuamta Monastery. For dinner and overnight we will arrive in Telavi.🍷

Day 3

On this day our plan will be to take the long way to the Tusheti region. We will take the most dangerous road in Georgia, leading through the Abano Pass (2900 meters above sea level). The road is open only seasonally, usually from mid-June to October. The views will be breathtaking, but may also give you motion sickness. There will be serpentines, precipices, rushing streams, sheep on the roads, all laced with green mountains and meadows. Under such natural circumstances we will reach Omalo, stopping for a rest at the Visitors Center. Then we will reach the Keselo Fortress. We will reach Upper Omalo for dinner and overnight.🗻

Day 4

After breakfast, we will set off in our minivan to the Que viewpoint. We will then drive to Dartlo. Here we will start our horseback ride to the village of Kvavlo, the whole route will be only 4 km, but it will certainly provide a lot of excitement. Here we will visit the characteristic medieval defense towers, called baskets. Then we will go by car to the village of Parsma, here we will have a short trek in the surrounding hills, maybe a small picnic in the open air. The next place to visit is the village of Girevi. At the end of the day, we'll return to Dartlo, where a workshop on hinkali weaving, dinner and overnight await us at a local gesthouse.🐎

Day 5

In the morning after breakfast we will leave Dartlo for the village of Bochorna, which is inhabited only in summer. Until a few years ago, Bochorna had the status of the highest village in Europe, but now, due to the death of its last year-round resident, this status has been taken away. From Bochorna we will go to the viewpoint to Dochu, an obligatory photo session at this place, to then reach Lower Omalo for dinner and overnight.🏖️

Day 6

A trip to Tbilisi awaits us in the morning. In the capital we will stop for a tour of the city, we will see among other things: Peace Bridge, Europe Square, Cminda Sameba Monastery, Metekhi Church, Abanotubani district, we will take the evening train ride up to Narikala Fortress to admire the panorama of the capital at night. For those who wish, an evening trip to the famous sulfur thermal baths in Tbilisi. Dinner at a restaurant, overnight at the hotel.🕍

Day 7

After breakfast we will leave towards Kutaisi. Here we will first go to the famous bazaar, where you can buy Georgian delicacies and souvenirs. Then we will see Bagrati Cathedral, the city center with the Kolchida Fountain, the White and Red Bridges over the Rioni River, Amusement Park, where there will be an opportunity for those willing to take a gondola lift with a panoramic view of the city. In the evening supra at Tina's with a cooking workshop and overnight in Kutaisi.🍷

Day 8

After breakfast, packing and transportation to the airport.✈️

The plan is quite detailed, but always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is, is also unpredictable, but you love it for that. 🇬🇪❤️🇵🇱

Georgia, which lies at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, the culture and traditions that are not fully understood for us. The final price depends on the number of people in the group, the date and the route. Those who are determined should first of all buy air tickets. This is a guarantee of the trip for us. Then, after sending confirmation of ticket purchase, a deposit of EUR 50 is required within 7 days (in case of cancellation, the deposit is non-refundable).
