Khevsureti-Kazbegi-2025
“THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS OF KHEVSURETI”
Day 1
After picking up from the airport in Kopitnari (20 km from Kutaisi), exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), buying SIM cards we will hit the road to the former capital of Georgia Mtskheta. This ancient city located at the mouth of the Aragva River to Mtkvari is an important symbol of Georgia. It was here that the Christian religion was proclaimed as the state religion in 337 after the introduction of Christianity by Svet Nino. We will visit the UNESCO-listed Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. For dinner and overnight we will stay at a family gesthous in Mtskheta.🕍
Day 2
On this day we will cross the mountainous Datvisjvari Pass located at an altitude of 2661 m. We will see Pirikita, the territory of the main ridge of the Eastern Caucasus. We will pass through Shatili, the informal capital of the Khevsureti region. On the way, we will have a small rest stop in nature near Kistani Fortress. The roads in Khevsureti resemble those in Svaneti or Tusheti in places, meaning that a 4x4 vehicle is mandatory and may toss around on the verdant roads, but the views will certainly make up for it all. We'll stop to visit the abandoned Chevsure village of Ardoti with its 10th century church. We will arrive at the absolute end of the world for the night. Surprise, let's keep our dinner spot at 2100 meters above sea level.
Day 3
After breakfast, we will set out for the medieval fortress of Mutso. Situated on a hill with numerous towers and with isolated rooms where human bones lie, it makes a mystical impression. On the one hand, the picturesque location and breathtaking views, on the other, the horrifying sight of human remains to some. We will also visit the extinct village of Anatori. For dinner and overnight we will arrive at the gesthouse in Shatila.
Day 4
In Shatila we will visit the fortress, which is a system of defensive towers connected to each other by streets and tunnels. It is characterized by peculiar roofs, laid without mortar from flat slate stones. We will drive to Khargali, where there is the Museum of Vaja Pshavela, a Georgian poet who wrote poems mainly depicting mountain landscapes. For dinner and an overnight stay, we will arrive in the village of Pasanauri, which is located on the Georgian War Road. In Pasanauri you can observe the phenomenon of the merging of the two colors of the White and Black Aragvi rivers.
Day 5
After breakfast, we will set off by car towards the Khada Valley. “Khada” means ‘mountain’ and has been inhabited since Neolithic times. We will taste water from mineral springs in the gorge, make a small trek (2.8 km) to the waterfall of the same name. After trekking we will return to the War Road, stop for the obligatory photos at the Gudauri Panorama, where the monument to Russian-Georgian Friendship is located. We will cross the Cross Pass, which rises to an altitude of 2379 m. For dinner and overnight we will arrive in Akhkhoti.
Day 6
After breakfast, we will drive to the village of Juta, from where we will begin an 8 km trek through the iconic Juta Valley. Views and chillout in nature guaranteed. For those willing, there is the possibility of renting horses and viewing the area from their backs, but we recommend, however, exploring the route on your own feet. On this day we will see the most recognizable symbol of Georgia, the Trinity Gergeti Church otherwise known as Tsminda Sameba, located so that we will see the village of Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) below, and in the background a view of the peak of Kazbek. For dinner and overnight we will go to Tbilisi.🏛️
Day 7
Tbilisi Tour awaits us on this day. We will visit the old city with the Abanotubani district, take the Narikala railroad, take a walk on the Peace Bridge. After lunch, we will set off on our way back to Kutaisi. In the evening here we will have our last supper together with a cooking workshop and overnight stay.🍷
Day 8
After breakfast, packing and departure to Kutaisi airport.✈️
The plan is quite detailed, but it is always subject to change if only due to weather conditions or temporary road closures. You have to remember that Georgia, as beautiful as it is, is also unpredictable, but you love it for that.❤️
Georgia, located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will always be both familiar and exotic to us. On the one hand, the famous Georgian hospitality, on the other hand, the culture and traditions that are not fully understood for us. We guarantee that you will fall in love as we did with Georgian cuisine, wine, mountains and people. 🇬🇪❤️🇬🇪
