Svaneti-2024
YOGA ON CAUCASUS / June 6-13, 2024
Day 1 (June 6)
After picking up from the airport (around 1 p.m. depending on which city you are arriving from) in Kutaisi, exchanging money (from euros or dollars to lari), buying SIM cards we will go to visit Enguri Dam, which at one time was the highest (272 m) arch dam in the world, today it is in 6th place in this respect. The hydroelectric power plant on the Inguri River lies partly on the territory of Abkhazia, which it also supplies with electricity. In truth, the dam is just a short stop on our way to the Svaneti region. We will arrive at the gesthouse in the village of Mazeri for dinner and overnight. In the evening we will have our first yoga session.π
Day 2 (June 7)
After morning yoga and Georgian breakfast we are getting ready for a real trek. First we will reach the "Hiker cafe" from where we will trek to Shdugra Waterfall. The approach one way is about 7.5 km, so in both directions about 15 km. The views will certainly reward us for the effort of the climb, and Berry in the evening during the yoga practice will make sure we don't get sour. Dinner and overnight at the gesthouse in Mazeri.β°οΈ
Day 3 (June 8)
From Mazeri after yoga and breakfast we will take a scenic car route to the high mountain town of Mestia. It is here that we will visit 2 interesting museums, one about Georgian climber Mikhala Khergiani and the Museum of History and Ethnography. If we have enough time we will also climb to the roof of one of the Svan defense towers. And the highlight of the day is a 5 km light trek towards the Chaaladi Glacier. Overnight and dinner in Mestia. Of course, there will be a daily dose of yoga.π»
Day 4 (June 9)
On this day, after practice and food, we will embark on a trek from Mestia to Koruldi Lakes. Koruldi Lakes is at an altitude of about 2740 meters above sea level, while Mestia itself is at an altitude of about 1430 meters above sea level, as you can easily count we have more than 1300 meters of elevation gain uphill and then downhill that day. The length of the route from Mestia to Koruldi Lakes is 7.2 kilometers one way, so a total of almost 15 kilometers. So a full day on the trail awaits us. After returning for the night and dinner, stretching to avoid sourness.
Day 5 (June 10)
After yoga and breakfast, we'll head to Heshkili Huts for a photo shoot, where we'll enjoy a moment of relaxation on the swanecks overlooking the Caucasus Mountains. Then along the winding Svanetsk roads we will reach Ushguli. This village, located at over 2200 meters above sea level, has 4 hamlets (Zhibiani, Chvibiani, Chazhashi and Murkmeli), and is famous for its stone defense towers. The wildness and ruggedness of this place will surely delight you. In the afternoon we will visit the village of Ushguli, if there is enough time and strength we will climb the hill with the Tamara Tower. Overnight and dinner in Usghuli overlooking Shkara.ποΈ
Day 6 (June 11)
On this day, after a Georgian breakfast, the highlight awaits us with a horseback ride and the popular approach to the head of the Shkara glacier. Shkara is Georgia's highest peak at 5203 meters above sea level, but don't let the numbers scare you, we will admire the peak from a safe distance. First we will ride 10 km on horseback, leave the horses to rest and approach the glacier by a scenic and not too demanding route of about 2 km. Then descend down to the horses and return on horseback another 10 km. Dinner and overnight still in Ushguli.π
Day 7 (June 12)
On this day we'll be viewing the world mainly from behind the car windows, as we face an approximately 6-hour drive back to Kutaisi. No worries, there will be stops, and the route through mountain passes with rushing streams below will certainly provide us with plenty of attractions. Upon arrival in Kutaisi if there is enough time to shop in the bazaar and visit Bagrati Cathedral. One last supra at Tina's and overnight in Kutaisi. π·

A few words about our yoga teacher:
Jagoda KwiecieΕ: She has been practicing yoga for over 6 years. Her first year was spent experimenting and exploring. In 2018, she found her way to an Ashtanga yoga class with Krystian Messiah and immediately fell in love with this dynamic method that calms the mind and energizes the body. Since then, she has been developing her practice in regular classes and by going to workshops, and most importantly by standing on the mat with herself every morning. In 2022, she completed a teacher training course with Ewa Wudzinska and Basia Lipska-Larsen. Since then, she regularly teaches classes at Lakshmi Yoga in Opole and organizes away workshops. Yoga is an ongoing journey for her, so she continues to develop her teaching skills at continuing education courses. Her latest passion is fascial yoga and autoregulation of the nervous system, elements of which she weaves into her classes to take care of participants at all levels.
